WEAVINGS OF KABIR • CARD 10
The Restless Monkey
The Verse
मन के मते न चालिये, मन के मते अनेक। जो मन पारस जो चलता हैं, सो संतसी एक।
Man ke mate na chāliye, man ke mate anek. Jo man pāras jo chaltā hain, so santasī ek.
“Do not follow the whims of the mind, for the mind has endless paths. He who masters his own mind is the true sage.”
The Unspun Thread • The Context
Kabir looked at the human mind not as a master to be obeyed, but as a restless, wild creature swinging erratically from branch to branch. He noticed that the mind constantly generates conflicting desires, sudden anxieties, and changing opinions, leading people down dozens of exhausting paths all at once. Kabir realized that true peace only begins when we stop treating our every passing thought as an absolute command.
The Knot • The Mind’s Trap
This card exposes the trap of mental identification. We often mistake the loud voice inside our heads for our true self. When the mind spins a story of worry, doubt, or sudden impulse, we immediately jump in and follow it down a rabbit hole. The ego tricks you into believing you are the storm of your thoughts, rather than the stable ground underneath.
Weaving It Into Life • The Suggestion
Treat your mind like a passing cloud today. Set a timer for three minutes, sit still, and simply watch your thoughts arise and fade without reacting to them. Practice labeling them neutrally—as “worrying,” “planning,” or “remembering”—and gently step back into the quiet role of the silent observer.
