WEAVINGS OF KABIR • CARD 13
Words of Honey
The Verse
ऐसी बानी बोलिये, मन का आपा खोये।
Aisī bānī boliye, man kā āpā khoye.
“Speak such words that drop the ego, soothing others while keeping yourself at peace.”
The Unspun Thread • The Context
Kabir sat in the village square and watched how words were used as weapons. He saw religious scholars arguing over text, merchants snapping at customers, and families wounding each other with sharp tongue lashes. He observed that speech is a direct extension of our internal state. When the ego is loud, our speech becomes sharp, defensive, or boastful. Kabir urged seekers to use their speech as a form of medicine, consciously dropping their pride before opening their mouths.
The Knot • The Mind’s Trap
The ego loves to use speech to assert dominance, prove itself right, or defend its fragile borders. This shows up as snapping in frustration, gossiping, or talking over people to feel important. The trap is believing that harsh or prideful words give you power. In reality, aggressive speech leaves both you and the listener emotionally drained and spiritually fragmented.
Weaving It Into Life • The Suggestion
Before you speak today, practice the sacred pause. Filter your words through a gentle check: Are they dropping my need to be important, and are they bringing true peace to the listener? If an interaction feels tense, consciously lower your volume, soften your tone, and speak with deliberate, ego-free kindness.
