In the village markets, Kabir watched people keep wild songbirds trapped in small, rigid bamboo cages. The birds would beat their wings against the bars, growing exhausted until they eventually forgot how to fly altogether. But Kabir noted that when the bamboo grew old, brittle, and cracked apart, the bird would suddenly remember its true nature, step through the broken bars, and leap into the vast, infinite sky. He used this poignant image to describe the moment a seeker outgrows their old, limited identity.

Human beings get incredibly attached to the familiar walls of their own cages. We cling to old labels, outdated relationships, stale jobs, or limiting mental habits simply because the cramped space feels safe and predictable. This card targets the fear of expansion. The mind tricks you into staying small, warning you that the open sky of change is too vast, terrifying, and unpredictable to handle.
