WEAVINGS OF KABIR • CARD 34
The Intoxicated Soul
The Verse
हम मस्ताना दीवाना, हमको होशियारी क्या जी।
Hum mastānā deewānā, humko hoshiyārī kyā jī.
I am completely intoxicated, entirely mad with divine love. What use do I have for the clever sanity of the world?
The Unspun Thread • The Context
The religious and political authorities of the village often called Kabir a madman because he refused to follow their rigid social rules, caste systems, and dry calculations. Kabir joyfully accepted their insult. He sang this ecstatic song to declare that he was indeed “drunk”—not on alcohol, but on the blinding, overwhelming ecstasy of divine love. He realized that the world’s so-called “sanity” is often just a cold, calculating anxiety, and that true spiritual freedom looks like pure madness to a closed mind.
The Knot • The Mind’s Trap
This card targets the tight, suffocating grip of social expectation and rigid logic. The ego is terrified of looking foolish, losing control, or stepping outside the bounds of conventional “common sense.” The mind tricks you into staying small, polite, and calculated, preventing you from tasting the raw, unexplainable joy of your own existence. The trap is choosing a safe, intellectual sanity over the ecstatic freedom of your heart.
Weaving It Into Life • The Suggestion
Grant yourself permission to drop the tight grip of logic tonight. Let your soul be a little “mad” with gratitude. Step outside of your analytical mind, look at the sheer miracle that you are alive on this planet right now, and let a wave of unexplainable, uncalculated joy wash over you as you prepare for sleep.
